Last month (September 24th) marked the 20 year anniversary of the original release date of Nirvana's NevermindReimagine Music is proud to help celebrate the twentieth anniversary of such an important album by releasing Come As You Are: A 20th Anniversary Tribute To Nirvana's Nevermind, available everywhere today.

13. Anthony Raneri (of Bayside) "About A Girl"

This special tribute album features contributions from some of today's best alternative and indie rock artists, and the album cover is a self portrait by rock photographer. Bands that have contributed their unique takes on Nirvana classics include Hawthorne Heights, Story Of The Year, Anthony Raneri (of Bayside), Finger Eleven, The Album Leaf, Margot and The Nuclear So and So's, mewithoutYou, Maps and Atlases, Murder By Death and Pitty

Come As You Are is produced by the acclaimed Jim Sampas whose other tributes to seminal albums such as Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska w/ Johnny Cash, Aimee Mann, Ben Harper and others and The Beatles' Rubber Soul w/ Sufjan Stevens, Ted Leo, Low, and others, as well as the Jay Farrar and Benjamin Gibbard album One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Music From Kerouac's Big Sur, are regarded as touchstones of the genre.
My take: I'm not a big fan of heavy metal or hard rock, but I've loved a few songs from Nirvana for many years now (and can hardly believe it's been 20 years since I first heard Smells Like Teen Spirit).  So I eagerly accepted this review, not realizing it wasn't a re-release, but rather a tribute album with covers of the originals, all by different bands.  Let me tell you, these songs aren't arranged at all the way Nirvana played them originally. Did I like it?  Most emphatically not (with one exception - Pitty's "Stay Away" would make a good addition to my work out list).  I gave a copy to one friend though who loved it!!  She said "different stylings breathed new life into classic rock!"  Another copy went to a second friend, who while not a fan of Nirvana originally, enjoyed this album specially because the arrangements of the songs were so different.  So I guess reviews are mixed on this side of town.  See below how you can win your own copy and weigh in on the "debate."

The giveaway:  Win your own copy of "Come As You Are: A 20th Anniversary Tribute To Nirvana's Nevermind!"

I love "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" from the Unplugged album. Some of the "D-7" demos are pretty sweet too.
