My take: Recently, we moved across town, to a better school district. Moving to a new neighborhood means meeting all new neighbors, both for my husband and I, and for our kiddos. And as my son in particular is meeting new friends, and going further and further afield from our house as he grows, I worry about his safety (he has peanut allergies). And I'm also a VERY protective mama for them both - the house rule is you are not allowed to go into anyone's yard or house until I have meet their new friend's parents first. So with all that in mind, I was in the market for a "mommy card" - I want to be able to exchange numbers with all these new friends and my professional card isn't appropriate as I want them to have my home number too. I have both my kid's color photos on the front with my phone number and email, and their allergies listed on the back, with phone numbers for their allergist, pediatrician, dad and Nana (my mom) (I gave one to our allergist so she can tell all her patients about it). Now when I meet new parents, all I do is hand them this card so they know how to get in touch with me immediately for an emergency (not to mention they can contact me for play dates!). I also gave one to a new friend I met at our local Food Allergy Support Group meeting - I'm going to have to let our President know for all our members - what a fantastic option for helping keep our kids safe!
