Audio CD (June 15, 2010)
My take: I own just two Sarah McLachlan CDs: Surfacing and Mirrorball. And it's safe to say, I've pretty much worn them out. From 'Adia', to 'Building a Mystery', to 'I Will Remember You', I am a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan so I was very excited to be able to check out her newest CD (7 years on the making). "Laws of Illusion" does not disappoint. The classic sound of McLachlan's melodious vocals are better than ever, with lyrics that seem to truly reflect the experiences of her last 7 years (and it sounds like some of those years taught her hard lessons indeed on love and loss). I'm not a professional music reviewer so I can't speak to you of harmony, or of instruments or the like (like the very good reviews on Amazon.com
for this CD) but as a middle-aged mother and professional, and a self-confessed fan of Sarah McLachlan, I have to say this is an amazing CD, well worth the 7 year wait. The music is calming, uplifting and just beautiful. I highly recommend you checking this one out. Not a sour note to be found! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

About Sarah McLachlan: On June 15, 2010, the Grammy Award–winning singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan will release of Laws of Illusion. This is Sarah’s first studio album of new material in seven years, since the double–platinum Afterglow in 2003, and its twelve songs rank with the most compelling work ever created by this gifted artist. In the years between these two releases, Sarah has married, separated, and is raising two young daughters. These crucial life experiences have enriched her artistry and infused her new songs with the full range and complexity of adult emotions. In listening to Laws of Illusion, we can hear the strength of hard–earned independence; the trials of love won, lost, and found anew; and the infinite joys of living. Since her signing with Arista Records nearly two decades ago, every one of Sarah McLachlan’s studio and live albums has been certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum by the RIAA. Touch (1988) and Solace (1991) were both gold sellers. Her 1994 breakthrough, the 3X-platinum Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, was followed by the digitally enhanced multimedia version of The Freedom Sessions (1995, gold).
Bonus: The return of the historic all-female Lilith Fair festival this summer! From 1997 through 1999, Lilith Fair was one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world, with over 2 million fans in attendance and raising over $10 million dollars for national and local women's charities. The 2010 edition commences June 27 in Calgary, Alberta with dates running through August 16 in Dallas, Texas. Beth Orton, Brandi Carlile, Carly Simon, Cat Power, the Go-Gos, Loretta Lynn, Jill Scott, and Mary J. Blige are just some of the artists who will join Sarah McLachlan for Lilith 2010.
