Marc Burckhardt’s paintings have graced the covers of many books and album covers, including June Carter Cash's "Wildwood Flower," and his portrait of Johnny Cash was part of the Grammy-winning package design for "The Legend: Johnny Cash." My take: Well, in the first place, I have to tell you I am a HUGE fan of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash so I was really looking forward to reading this book. It did not disappoint - I absolutely loved this book and once more, so did my kids. Why? I think it's because the story echoes a favorite game of ours, one I started when my son first started talking. You may play the same "game" - where you trade off "I love yous" - "I love you more than all the sand on the beach," "I love you more than all the stars in the sky..." Through the use of simple rhyme (the cadences read like a song to me) Momma Loves Her Little Son really captures for me that unique mother-son bond that I'm so blessed to have in my own life. And the crisp and colorful illustrations accompany the text perfectly. Destined to be a classic, I look forward to reading Momma Loves Her Little Son for many years to come.
