Elephants. Tigers. Clowns. Acrobats. Ever since Mom Central sent me a program guide to the 2009 Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® tours, my 6 year old has been practicing his handwriting with those words. He diligently sits in front of the open program and copies the words that describe "the greatest show on earth!" His excitement is contagious - I can't wait for the day I can take him and his little sister to see the circus for the first time!
Last year, Mom Central and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® teamed up to provide families across the country with a special opportunity to experience The Greatest Show On Earth® and I wrote about it here (be sure to go back and read the end of that review for information on Baby's First Circus - to help start the family traditions early, the Baby’s First Circus program allows babies to receive a free ticket voucher that can be exchanged for a free ticket to any Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey performance, anytime, anywhere. No expiration date!)
This year, the excitement continues with ZING ZANG ZOOM and OVER THE TOP tours. The Mom Central team recently had the pleasure of checking out the newest production from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey in Orlando, FL and here is what they had to say: "We were blown away by the energy, music, dancing and really outstanding illusions found in ZING ZANG ZOOM. The show features magical Zingmaster Alex Ramon, who had us gasping in disbelief at the grand illusions that he performed, and the amazing interactive family experience merged with traditional circus acts was remarkable. It brought back the magic of the circus from our own childhoods and reminded us of the importance of passing down the lifetime memory and tradition of experiencing Ringling Bros. as a family to our children."
Now I know that times are hard right now - very hard. Entertainment takes a back seat to the basics like groceries, gas, and mortgages. Which makes these special family offers from Mom Central so exciting is they make the circus affordable. Check them out and have fun at the circus!

My kid's all have those very special and wonderful certificates and won't ever use them!!!
They are not coming to Norfolk/Hampton this year? What, no Elephant Parade for Peta to protest?
All chances of any snow are now gone. :(
Way to go promoting animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is ok, as long as it's for the kids, right?
I hope you will reconsider, believe me one day your children will thank you. I went to the Barnum Bailey circus with my parents when I was 6. As I watched the animals perform, I knew it was not what they wanted to do and I felt sorry for them. I remember leaving the circus with a sense of sadness. Children learn in school and from nature programs what a wild animal’s life should be like. They see the same animals, some which are endangered, jump a rope or balance on a stool in a circus. This must be very confusing for children. Animals are enslaved by the circus business. When they no longer tolerate the abuse and become angry, like Tyke the elephant in the Honolulu circus, no one wins. In her case, she killed her trainer/abuser, injured her groomer and went on a rampage throughout the streets for about 30 minutes. It took almost 2 hours for Tyke to die after she was shot by the police nearly 100 times. Try explaining that to a child after buying a ticket. Countless law suits were filed, some were for the psychological trauma of children. Animals in circuses have been beaten in front of children. A Barnum Bailey employee admitted that an elephant was beaten so badly during a show she dripped blood onto the show ring floor. Barnum has a tradition of treating their animals badly. They are currently on trial for violating the Endangered Species Act. It is clear to many people that it is impossible to humanely keep these beautiful (and potentially deadly) animals in a circus. The circus elephants spend much of their lives in chains. They travel in small train cars, standing in their own feces, with no heat or AC, for up to 60-100 hours at a time when touring different cities. And don’t be fooled by Barnum and Bailey’s elephant breeding program. They call it “conservation” but they are breeding a new generation of performers! Spokespeople of the circus have said “as long as people buy tickets we will have performing elephants”. Send a message to them and to your kids and please don’t buy that ticket.
I'm really enjoying this tour blog. The should do the same thing with the tickets site:www.ringlingbroscircustickets.org, maybe put some type of ticket sellers blog up there. I've heard some crazy stories from those folks.
