Product Description from Amazon.com: "The sequel to the number-one New York Times bestseller The Friday Night Knitting Club, KNIT TWO returns to Walker and Daughter, the Manhattan knitting store founded by Georgia Walker and her young daughter, Dakota. Dakota is now an eighteen-year-old freshman at NYU, running the little yarn shop part-time with help from the members of the Friday Night Knitting Club.

Drawn together by the sense of family the club has created, the knitters rely on one another as they struggle with new challenges: for Catherine, finding love after divorce; for Darwin, the hope for a family; for Lucie, being both a single mom and a caregiver for her elderly mother; and for "seventysomething" Anita, a proposal of marriage from her sweetheart, Marty, that provokes the objections of her grown children.

As the club’s projects—an afghan, baby booties, a wedding coat—are pieced together, so is their understanding of the patterns underlying the stresses and joys of being mother, wife, daughter, and friend. Because it isn’t the difficulty of the garment that makes you a great knitter: it’s the care and attention you bring to the craft—as well as how you adapt to surprises."

I'm one of the lucky ones. I didn't read "The Friday Night Knitting Club" until I also had "Knit Two" in hand. That way, after I finished devouring the first book (sitting in the lobby of a fancy hotel waiting for my conference to start, trying not to SOB all over myself in front of hundreds of colleagues, thankyousoverymuch), I could dive right into the second book and not have to wait to see what happened to all my favorite characters. Because what a world Kate Jacobs has created, centered around the knitting store "Walker and Daughter."

Her novel, The Friday Night Knitting Club, earned rave reviews for its powerful characters and moving storyline. Knit Two, which is being released today, brings us back into the lives of the original characters five years after the first book left off. With a focus on the challenges, joys, and friendships of these characters, this book is a powerful read for any woman. Although those who read the first book will be especially captivated by the continuation, even new readers will find countless things to love.

What's to love? Ms. Jacob's celebration of the powerful bond between women for one - the ladies in this book remind me of some of the great friendships I have been blessed with in my own life - including my greatest friendship that I too, lost to cancer. Which is why I was sobbing at the end of the first book - been there, done that, unfortunately. But what I love about these books is how they remind us all of how invaluable great friends are - they are someone we can share secrets with, laugh with over embarrassing moments, or turn to for support in the worse of times. Our burdens are lighter for having been shared. I've been blessed with many friends like the characters that populate these two books - which is probably why the stories resonate with me. And why I'm still thinking about them days later.

This book is a must read for anyone who treasures their friends. Me? I'm off to put Ms. Jacob's book Comfort Food on my Santa list!
